Barefoot Bride – Wedding in Croyde Bay

There is nothing quite like a Wedding by The Sea and there is nothing quite like Croyde in North Devon. Set against the backdrop of the Atlantic ocean, it boasts rolling hills, sand dunes, sunsets & a super cool surf culture – it is arguably one of THE most fabulous Wedding Destinations in the South West.

Here at Blue Fizz Events,we have been lucky enough to host some of the most beautiful & magical celebrations in Croyde over the years and 2021 has proved no exception. With the ever nagging presence of the coronavirus, couples have faced emotional and multi layered challenges throughout the planning process. Today’s blog pays testament to two gorgeous couples who chose positivity over negativity and who bravely and calmly channeled their energies into creating their dream weddings –  days which were not only a celebration of their marriage, but a celebration of life, love, family & friends , endurance and togetherness…

Meet Lidia and Mitch – they chose beautiful Down End Field as their Wedding Destination of choice –

We are thrilled to share with you a collection of images and anecdotes from this gorgeous couple. We cannot thank you enough for sharing with us your special day! Huge thank you also to Abi and Keith of Abi Riley Photography  for their exquisite captures

1)            What it meant to be married during a pandemic?

Lidia “Planning a wedding in a pandemic was stressful to say the least. Most things were planned to accommodate for a larger number of guests so we had to go back and plan every step and change a few suppliers such as catering. However with reduced numbers our day was actually more personal and intimate. We originally had over 150 guests attending and we had to reduce this to 30.

We look back at our perfect day and it wasn’t about the amount of people, we had our closest family and friends and that meant more to us. We never wanted to delay or defer the date, we ultimately just wanted to celebrate our love and start our next chapter in our favourite place.”

2)            Reasons why you chose Croyde as the destination of choice?

We are from Leicester but we have been coming for family holidays for around 10 years now. We were introduced to Croyde by a family friend and we instantly fell in love with it. The beach, the views, the relaxed lifestyle and simplicity of a beautiful British coast line. We both have highly stressed jobs and we find that we both relax and switch off in Croyde. It’s our favourite place. Since our wedding, many of our guests have actually rebooked to return. We saw a wedding on Down End field on our first visit together to Croyde when we were on the beach and commented “ imagine getting married there”. As soon as we were engaged we knew there was only one place we wanted to get married.”

3)            Describe the style of wedding you chose

To describe our style of wedding, we would say we went for a rustic boho theme with some coastal influences such as starfish on our wedding cake. The structure of our day was less formal and more relaxed. We didn’t follow the traditional order of the day and adopted a more festival like atmosphere. We had pasties from the local shop in Croyde on arrival ( which everyone loved! ) and Fish and Chips in the evening that was delivered by SQ in Braunton. These are both of our favourite foods when we visit so it had to be included in our day! We also made a lot of our wedding decorations such as the floating flower arch and wooden displays. We had an amazing DJ and included in this was a silent disco which was an amazing finish to the day. We ultimately wanted to have fun at our own wedding and dance in the sunset!”

4)            What pearls of wisdom can you share for brides marrying this year and beyond?

It’s easy to say to not let the wedding stress take over, but it is so important to focus on the reason of the wedding day rather than the finer details that end up causing so much stress.

Remember it’s your day and it’s how you and your partner want it to be, don’t allow others to influence.

If you can, try and be creative. Making items for your wedding really gives that personal touch. It was something that we really enjoyed doing together.

5)            Any feedback on booking a Blue Fizz Events marquee wedding by the sea 🙂

We were initially surprised on how easy it was to book with blue fizz, it was so simple and easy. We didn’t think at the start of the essential extras that were needed to make Down end field wedding ready, but Tracy was able to calmly put us in contact with a relevant supplier or person. Even organising quotes for us.

If you want our honest answer – DO IT, you won’t regret it.”
