Wedding Postponement – Inspiration for the Festival Bride

Last Spring saw Katie & Jooles tie the knot at the stunning Ash Barton Estate in glorious North Devon …

This May sees Katie & Jooles celebrate their 1st Year Anniversary and we wanted to take this opportunity of telling you their story. With still so much uncertainty surrounding Weddings in 2020 and the sting of disappointment still raw, we hope this blog provides some much need inspiration, comfort, reassurance and joy.

Theirs was a celebration of family & friends, picnic baskets & pastures green, marquees & meadows, wildflowers & wedding belles! A gorgeous Colour Pop Festival Style Wedding – handmade, homemade and carefully crafted.

I met Katie & Jooles in London at the very start of their Wedding Planning. Such a gorgeous couple, the planning process was effortless as we shared notes and exchanged anecdotes. It was such an honour to have been asked to coordinate ‘on the day’ – an absolute privilege from start to finish!

Katie & Jooles have kindly taken this opportunity to share some of her own pearls of wisdom taken from her Wedding Experience ……

If it’s a DIY wedding …

1) Ensure you have a ‘Tracy’, and if not Tracy herself then someone to be the ‘go to’ and coordinator on the day, so that you can 100% focus on ‘being in the moment’ and enjoying your big day.

2) People go to weddings of the same old formula all the time, so if you want to make yours stand out, make it different, make it completely YOUR day. Don’t feel you have to follow all the traditions, pick the ones you want to do and forget the others. See the extra time that COVID-19 has given you to really think through what feels right and what doesn’t.

3) Setting up – everything takes longer than you think so allow enough time AND most importantly allow time to stand back and enjoy it.

4) Delegate – make a list/draw a plan of what needs to happen where so that the people helping you set up can just take that list/plan and get on with things without you there. It is impossible for you to be in 6 places at once! One of our greatest joys setting up was being called away to help with something else and coming back to everything being done and looking amazing!

5) Undoubtedly there will be the odd small thing that doesn’t quite go to plan on the day, DO NOT WORRY about them, believe us when we say the guests will not notice.

6) On the day – take yourselves away from the crowds just for 20 mins or so to ensure that you stop, appreciate and enjoy the realisation that you are now married and have just made the most incredible and life changing promises to one another.

7) Don’t be afraid to use all the skills of your friends and family to help you with as many things as possible, you don’t have to do everything yourself. Everyone absolutely loved being so involved with our wedding, from set up to inclusion in the ceremony to take away fish and chips together the day after.

8) If you’ve had to postpone your wedding because of COVID-19, once you’ve got over the initial disappointment and frustration try to make a plan for the weeks/months you have till your big day and use the extra time to almost be over prepared. Write things to complete each week or month between now and the big day. It is the nature of planning weddings that ultimately some things get left till the last minute, therefore, if you can, try and treat this as a positive with extra time to get everything absolutely perfect so you aren’t panicking in the lead up.”

Thank you Katie & Jooles!! xx
